EMERGENCY FLOOD RESPONSE IN DISTRICT KOHISTAN:
Kohistan has been the victim of various types of natural disasters. The most common disasters are Avalanche, Land sliding, Floods and Earth quakes. However, the recent devastation can be solely attributed to the torrential rain fall followed by unprecedented floods. An outsider may attribute the destruction in Kohistan to Indus River but it is astonishing to know that these were basically the various small water channels which became a major source of destruction in district Kohistan. People living on the banks of these water channels have been the major victims of the recent floods in Kohistan.

IDPs CRISIS IN NWFP:
The Government officially announced the launch of military operation against the militants in Swat, in addition to Buner and Dir districts in the last week of April. The launch of the military operation resulted in mass migration of the affected population to other districts in search of safety and security. 80% of the population of Buner district left the area. The total number of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) exceeded 3 million according to UNHCR/ National media reports.
